Producciones de Martin
Guatemalan marimba
Producciones de Martin’s mission is to preserve, strengthen, and present the music, culture, and traditions of Guatemala and to educate a new generation of Guatemalan-Americans about the importance of traditional music and folklore.
In 2009, Producciones de Martin received a grant from ACTA’s Living Cultures Grants Program to support La Marimba y las Tradiciones de Guatemala, a residency led by master Guatemalan marimba player and teacher Julio Landoni. Including a two-day marimba workshop and performance of traditional Guatemalan marimba music by Mr. Landoni’s ensemble, Ixim Tinamit, with vocalist Ana Nitmar, the residency was designed to teach and celebrate the music and cultural traditions of Guatemala through marimba music and provide a forum for the San Francisco Bay Area Guatemalan community to gather and reaffirm their heritage.
